Frequently Asked Questions

What should host families provide to students?

In general, the host family provides the student with three meals a day. For lunch, you can pack something that can be eaten at school. It is also a good idea for both a host family and a student to pack your student’s lunch. If a student receives lunch at the school or a separate cafeteria, the cost must be paid by the student.

Additionally, the host family must provide transportation for the student. If your host family is close to the school, a student may walk to and from the school. However, students generally prefer to have transportation provided. Depending on the host family's schedule or situation, it is possible to drop the student off at school a little earlier or pick him up a little later, just in case.

The host family will provide a bedroom, bed, floor lamp, bath room, WIFI, desk, chair and basic necessities.

What should I do if my student is sick?

If it is not an urgent situation, the student can be taken to any urgent care near the home. In case of emergency, the student can be taken to any hospital. All students have health insurance. In the case of additional/specific questions, individuals should contact Kaiss Education directly with any inquiries.

What should I do if a student wants to sleep over at a friend's house?

If the student first obtains permission from the friend's parents and then informs the guardian, the guardian will contact them and allow the student to sleep over if they confirm permission.

Do I need to help my student with school work or homework?

Hosts are encouraged to help students with school affairs. This may include, for example, homework or school events, if needed. This is not mandatory.

How far is the recommended driving distance from the host's house to a student's school?

We recommend that the commute is less than 25 minutes one-way.

Can students drive a car?

My students are not allowed to drive cars for any reason. Students are never allowed to drive, and Kaiss Education is not responsible for any accidents caused by not complying with this guideline.

Do host families get a paid stipend?

That's right. The stipend paid varies depending on the region, school, etc. Please contact us for details.

Will I get a deposit when a student moves it?

We do not provide a deposit. But in regards to any damage that may occur due to a student, we can pay up to $300. If the damage is more than this amount, the host is expected to use his or her home insurance. In other words, we expect that host families will have home insurance.

Who pays for what?

As a host parent, you must provide your child with three meals a day and transportation to and from school and school activities. The student will pay for medical insurance, school registration, and travel expenses. Students bring their own money for clothing, social activities, and other personal expenses.

Additionally, family travel, family dining out, etc. are at your discretion. For example, when eating out, the host family usually covers the cost of food provided it is not too high. Otherwise, there is a way to have the student pay the cost directly after discussion with Kaiss Education.

Tax deduction

Expenses incurred by a host for a student can be treated as an expense when reporting taxes. On average, over 95% of stipends received by hosts are reported as costs. This means there is virtually no tax burden or at very minimum.

What if I want to stop hosting?

You can stop hosting a student with personal discretion. However, we need 2 months of notice so that we can provide a smooth transition of the student to another host family.
